Our Library
The O’Connor Cooperative School Library is small but great! It is a cosy space for children to enjoy reading, browsing and borrowing.
Children are able to borrow from the library on a regular basis. They borrow books for reading at home and at school. Books used at school are consciously selected by the children, to be 'good fit' books. This is part of the literacy program implemented in K-2 classes to teach reading and writing.
Children use the 'I PICK' strategy when selecting their 'good fit' books:
- I choose a book
- Purpose - why do I want to read it?
- Interest - does it interest me?
- Comprehend - am I understanding what I am reading?
- Know - I know most of the words
Children in each class also borrow books for the class library and investigations projects. The library has a wide range of quality picture books, big books, audio books and teaching resources. Children and staff have up to date information texts to use as part of teaching and learning.
We ask that children bring a library bag to borrow books in to help protect the books on their journey to and from school.
